Nutrition Counseling in Redlands
Not a meal plan you will abandon by Thursday. A registered dietitian, sitting with your actual week, working out what changes first.

What is Nutrition Counseling?
You already know most of the advice. Eat more vegetables. Drink more water. Cut back on the thing you know you should cut back on. The gap was never information. The gap is that the advice arrives with no idea what your Tuesday looks like, who else you are cooking for, what your grocery budget is, what your last labs said, or which approaches you have already tried and quietly abandoned. Generic guidance fails for a specific reason: it is not yours. Nutrition counseling is a one on one conversation with a registered dietitian, a clinician with a credentialed education in nutrition, who starts with what you actually eat and builds forward from there rather than handing you somebody else's plan. It is education and behaviour change support. It is not a prescription, and it does not replace the care your physician provides.
Nutrition counseling here is delivered by a registered dietitian with more than 15 years in the field, certified through ACE, NASM and AFAA, and a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, who co-authored the clinic's Wellness Program and has run it for more than 7 years. Nutrition is one of that program's four components, alongside flexibility, cardiovascular health, and strength and conditioning, which is the reason nutrition sits inside a physical therapy clinic at all. If you are rehabbing an injury, training on the gym floor, or working through the Wellness Program, what you eat belongs to the same picture as what you lift. Your dietitian works alongside your therapist and your doctor rather than in place of either one.
Who It's For
This is for people who want the guidance to fit their life rather than the other way around. It is education and support, not a diagnosis and not a promise about the scale.
You are rehabbing an injury or recovering from surgery
Healing tissue has requirements, and protein and total intake are the ones most often missed while somebody is less active than usual. Your dietitian looks at what you are genuinely eating during rehab and adjusts it around your appetite and your schedule. The outcome we look for is that nutrition stops being the part of recovery nobody talked to you about.
You are training and the work has stopped translating
You are on the gym floor consistently, but energy is inconsistent and sessions feel harder than they should. Timing, total intake and hydration are usually the first places to look, and none of them requires an overhaul of how you eat. The outcome we look for is a fuelling pattern you can hold on an ordinary week, not one that only survives a perfect week.
You were handed dietary advice and no plan for following it
A clinician told you to change how you eat and the conversation ended there. A registered dietitian translates that into groceries, meals and a short list of changes in the order worth trying them. The outcome we look for is that you can explain your own plan without a handout, and that it survives after the visits stop. Your physician stays in charge of your medical care throughout.
What to Expect from Nutrition Counseling in Redlands
Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, one on one. The first one is mostly listening, because nothing useful gets recommended before somebody knows how you actually eat.
The intake conversation
You talk through a typical week: meals, timing, who you cook for, your work schedule, what you like, what you will not eat under any circumstances, and every approach you have already tried and dropped. Bring recent labs if your physician has shared them, plus a list of medications and supplements. The point is an accurate starting picture, not a confession.
Two or three changes, in order
You leave with a small number of specific changes rather than a rulebook, chosen because they fit the week you described and because they are the ones most likely to stick. Expect practical detail: what to buy, what to keep in the house, and what a realistic version of dinner looks like on the night you get home at seven with nothing thawed.
Adjusting as you go
At follow ups you report what worked and what did not, and the plan gets adjusted rather than repeated louder. Nutrition counseling is offered on its own or as the nutrition component of the Wellness Program, which runs about 12 one hour visits across flexibility, cardiovascular health, strength and conditioning, and nutrition, at $85 a visit or $800 for the full 12 visit package. Talk to our registered dietitian first. It is a real conversation about whether this is worth your time.
Nutrition counseling here is education and behaviour change support. It does not diagnose or treat disease, and it does not replace the care of your physician. Nothing your dietitian suggests should be used to start, stop or change a prescribed medication. If you manage a condition such as diabetes, kidney disease or a heart condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of an eating disorder, loop your physician in before changing how you eat, and tell your dietitian so the guidance can be written around it. Coverage for nutrition services varies by plan, so ask the front desk to check your benefits before you book.
I had several sessions of PT at Citrus Valley Physical Therapy. My experience was awesome! The staff is very professional.
