Physical Therapy in Redlands

One therapist, one hour, one plan. We find what is actually driving the pain, then rebuild the way you move so it holds.

01What It Is

What is physical therapy?

You have already stopped doing one thing. Maybe it is the second flight of stairs, maybe it is lifting your kid with your right arm, maybe it is sleeping on that side. You never decided to stop. You worked around it until the workaround became the way you move. Pain that lasts is almost never a purely local problem. A joint that has quietly lost motion gets covered for by the joint above or below it, and the tissue doing the covering is usually the tissue that ends up sore, which is why the painful spot and the actual source so often sit in different places. Physical therapy is the work of telling those two apart. Your first visit at our Redlands clinic runs about an hour, one on one with a doctor of physical therapy, who tests how each joint moves, where your strength drops off compared side to side, and which specific movements reproduce your symptom. What comes out of that hour is a measured starting point rather than a guess, and a plan built on top of it. The plan is not a printed handout. It changes as your measurements change.

Care here runs through four phases, always in this order. Pain: calm the symptom down far enough that you can move and be assessed honestly. Prime: give the joint back the motion and control it lost. Perform: load it, build real capacity, and get back to the thing you came in for. Prevent: keep it from returning. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes and stay one on one, and most plans of care run 2 to 3 visits a week for 4 to 6 weeks. Many patients notice a change in the first week or two, though that depends on how long the problem has been there and what is driving it, and your therapist re-tests your measurements at every visit so progress is something you can see rather than something you take on faith. In California you can start physical therapy without a physician referral for up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first. Some plans still require one for coverage, so call or text and we will verify your benefits and tell you what you will owe before you commit to a course of care.

02Who It's For

Who physical therapy in Redlands is for.

Physical therapy is not only for the seriously injured. If something hurts, stiffens, or gives out often enough that you plan your day around it, that is reason enough to be evaluated.

01

Something recent went wrong

A fall, a bad lift, a rolled ankle, or a surgery you are recovering from. We restore range first, then strength, then the load you genuinely need to handle. The goal is going back to full duty rather than to a careful version of it.

02

It keeps coming back

The ache that returns every few weeks has a driver, usually a joint or a muscle group that quietly stopped doing its share of the work. We test until we find it, then treat that instead of the spot that happens to be shouting.

03

You want to do more again

Hiking, lifting, gardening, keeping pace on a job site. We rebuild the mobility and capacity the specific activity asks of you, then leave you with the work that keeps the old injury from circling back.

03What To Expect

What to expect in a session.

No shared attention, no circuit of machines you run by yourself, no visit that ends with you wondering what it was for. Here is how an appointment actually runs.

01

Re-check, then set the day

Every visit opens with a short re-test. What changed since last time, what your range and strength measure today, what flared and what did not. That result decides the session, so the plan tracks your body instead of a printed schedule.

02

Hands on, then movement

Your therapist works the restricted joints and tissue directly with manual therapy, then puts the motion you just gained straight to use with guided movement. Hands on work opens the window. Using it is what keeps the window open.

03

Loading and your home program

You finish with the strengthening work that creates lasting change, then leave with a short home program, usually a handful of movements that need no equipment. What you do between visits is most of what makes the gains hold.

Good to know

Wear clothes you can move in and bring the shoes you actually walk or train in. Come a little early for the first visit so the paperwork is done before your hour starts. Tell your therapist about recent imaging, any surgery, and any medication that affects your blood pressure or balance, since all three change how the first few sessions are progressed.
